On Which Grounds Is Synthetic Grass Installed?

It is a ground application known as synthetic grass, artificial grass, and fake grass and is mostly used in sports fields. These grasses are used as an alternative to natural grass but are more preferred than natural grass because they have a natural appearance that does not harm the environment. When viewed from the outside, it has a structure that is not different from natural grass but has a much more vibrant and dynamic appearance. Synthetic grass containing polymer and yarn is frequently used in sports fields. Based on ancient times, synthetic grass was used as a soft ground application in the 1960s to prevent children from getting harmed while playing. In the following years, due to the development of technology and the changing needs, the usage areas of synthetic grass expanded and turned into modern and attractive aesthetics. Today, artificial grass is used in almost every form, and each one is used in different areas.

Synthetic Grass Usage Areas

Synthetic grass is quite wide in terms of usage areas. The usage areas of these grasses are examined in 2 different groups as decorative and sportive.

• Use of artificial grass for decorative purposes

The use of artificial grass for decorative purposes is frequently preferred today. It is mostly used for landscaping in houses with gardens. In addition, it is needed for balcony floor coverings and interior floor coverings. It is preferred in gardens, hotels, restaurants, and cafes as it gives a very pleasing appearance. It is preferred more often than sporty grass because it has a stunning appearance. To give an example to this;

• Garden floor and balcony floor coverings
• Playground and landscape area coverings
• Indoor coatings in home decoration
• Floor decoration in hotel and cafe restorations

• Use of artificial grass for sportive purposes

Synthetic grass is more common in sportive areas. Because synthetic grass offers a safe area for sports players with its soft structure and minimizes the risk in case of a fall. Pile lengths of artificial grass used for sportive purposes are approximately 60 mm. The pile length of each sports field is different from the other. Examples of artificial grass used in sports fields are as follows;

• Indoor and Outdoor Synthetic Grass Floors
• Football Stadiums
• Golf Courts
• Tennis Courts
• Sports Fields
• Baseball Fields
• Rugby Fields

How to Care for Synthetic Grass?

Synthetic grass care is much easier compared to natural grass. There is no need for constant watering like natural grass, and routine maintenance operations such as sowing seeds and cutting growing grass are not required. The most important stage to be considered in artificial grass maintenance is the first week. The more careful one is in a week, the better it is used. Although it creates the impression that it is slightly soft and rocking on the ground in the first days, the desired efficiency will be obtained in 1-3 months, and the grass will become flat and more stable. Adapting to weather conditions also balances this process. At temperatures above 40 degrees, the lawn should be irrigated with rainwater or tap water. In icy and sub-zero weather conditions, the grass should be irrigated with warm water. Since it is not natural soil, there is no problem such as infestation in artificial grass. For this reason, it is more preferred than natural grass. If some necessary factors are taken into consideration, synthetic grass maintenance is easily done. Adding artificial grass granules: For synthetic grass installation, granule pieces must be added to the bottom of the grass to keep the grass more stable on the field. At this stage, the grass floor should be brushed every 6 months, and granule planting should be done. Thus, a solid and dynamic grass appearance is obtained like the first day. Irrigation of artificial grass in hot weather: Although it is not natural, artificial grass should also be watered when it is very hot. Since artificial grass is made of synthetic yarn, this synthetic may soften and lose its properties in hot weather. To cool the artificial grass, it will be correct to water the grass equally in scorching weather. Collect garbage at regular intervals: It is necessary to regularly clean the garbage, cigarette butts, and other wastes thrown into the grass to prevent any damage during playing. Synthetic grass care takes place in this way as standard. If the necessary criteria are observed, artificial grass can be used as solid as the first day for many years. However, if the care is neglected, the deformity will occur in a short time and will become unusable over time.

How Is Artificial Grass Installation Performed?

Artificial grass installation is both a straightforward and skillful process. For this reason, it would be more appropriate to get support from competent companies as much as possible. There is a non-slip base under the artificial grass, and it does not slip in any way when placed on the ground. This sole, which has a black, slightly sticky feature, sits better on the floor and becomes firm as time passes. The most important feature to be considered during the installation phase of artificial grass is the measurement. If the size is taken transversely and longitudinally, it can be installed like a jigsaw piece. However, if the measure is taken more or less, the processing time may be extended. The more attention is paid to its care in the first place, the sooner it adapts to the ground in a short time. For this reason, it should be brushed once a week to ensure that it sits well on the ground.

What are the Features of Artificial Grass?

Artificial grass can vary in size. Generally, they have a pile length between 5 mm and 70 mm. It is often preferred for landscaping and home décor as well as sports fields. They are made of synthetic material. It isn’t easy to distinguish it aesthetically from natural grass. So much so that compared to natural grass, it is more convenient in terms of its lifetime and advantages. Artificial grass is preferred according to its properties. In addition to the pile size they have, the shock pad and granules used in the installation phase are also effective in the preference phase. Artificial grass, no matter what features it has during the construction phase, is definitely not exposed to water accumulation. At the same time, they are not directly affected by hot and cold weather as in natural grass. Artificial grass supplied in rolls can be used for an average of 5-10 years if certain standards are observed. First of all, the quality of synthetic grass, its granule usage rate, sand and felt structure, drainage channels, and natural ground structure would change its useful life. For this reason, it is necessary to pay attention to these criteria when procuring synthetic grass.

How Is Synthetic Grass Application Performed?

When applying synthetic grass as a priority, drainage channels are opened to prevent water absorption and accumulation in rain and irrigation situations. After the drainage channels are opened, the filling is made to prevent leakage of the areas where the water is drawn. Afterward, fine gravel material will be used to flatten the ground and make it desired. After the crushed material is distributed at the required level, felt is applied on the layer, and the ground is brought to the required balance. After distributing sand and granules, the necessary environment will be prepared for the artificial grass to adhere to the ground. The intended use should also carry out the laying process. In the installation phase, accompanied by adhesive materials, the artificial grass adheres well to the ground. Within an average of 1 week, the artificial grass is well adhered to the ground and is ready for use.

Artificial Grass Cost

Synthetic grass cost varies according to various factors. Even pile sizes are effective in terms of price, as each of them has different features. The square meter price of the artificial grass to be purchased is a factor in this matter. Factors such as how many square meters you will buy, product quality, pile size, features, and brand name determine the prices. In addition, even in which area artificial grass will be used is effective in determining the costs. For example, there is a visible difference between the artificial grass used in the sports field and the artificial grass fees used for decoration purposes. When purchasing artificial grass, it is possible to buy a product suitable for the budget. However, it is always necessary to choose reliable companies. The important thing here is not the price but the quality of the product. A quality synthetic grass is used for an average of 5 years, and even if routine maintenance is done, this process may take longer. However, if the poor quality artificial grass is purchased just because the price is affordable, problems may arise during the installation phase.
