Synthetic Turf Renewal and Maintenance in Sports Fields
17/11/2021
Every municipality that invests in sports facilities knows that synthetic turf pitches are a major cost factor. If they get dirty over time, the risk of slipping and injury increases and the damping properties decrease. On the other hand, the bristles are trampled so flat that they break much faster than desired. There is technology for maintenance that, with regular use, can solve all of these problems, the costs of this are clearly worthwhile compared to replacing synthetic turf roll.
What Should Be Considered When Using Synthetic Turf?
There are two different systems for artificial sports turf installation. Filled synthetic sports turf have been found more frequently. In this case, fine rubber granules between the bristles provide damping and stabilization in equal measure. The use of unfilled synthetic sports turf systems in which smaller supporting bristles take over the function of the granulate has increased in recent years. The maintenance of filled systems is also costlier in terms of the synthetic turf cost, because there are only expensive special machines that suck in the granulate, separate it from the dirt and then return it again. Large communities can invest in such technology, while smaller communities often work with service providers.
Those who rely on an unfilled system choose the more sustainable alternative with a view to the environment and also have significantly less effort in terms of the synthetic sports turf maintenance. This means that the higher acquisition sports turf costs will also pay off over the service life. Thanks to the artificial turf kits available on the market for common sweepers, hard surfaces around the sports field can be cleaned with one machine, just like the artificial turf itself. Only the standard brush has to be exchanged for the artificial grass brush when cleaning the lawn.
Athletes and Equipment at A Glance: Maintenance
Over time, stones, leaves, street dirt and hair get caught in the lawn, and the risk of slipping and accidents increases. The damping properties to avoid injuries also deteriorate. The maintenance of the artificial turf after synthetic turf installation ensures cleanliness and is like a massage for the bristles. Like brushing against the grain of a hide, the bristles should be worked against the grain. It is important that a fixed grid of the main brush is possible. As a result, the contact pressure is constantly reduced and is not exerted too much at any point.
There are a few tips if you experience synthetic turf installation process yourself that will also protect the lawn. The side broom, for example, lies horizontally and should only be used on the edge, as it is only there that it can perform its cleaning and pick up leaves or stones. It would rather put a strain on the lawn itself. The surface can then be worked on, line by line, with the side brush raised. Since the main brush rotates at high speed, it must not run in place, and the steering wheel of ride-on machines should not be turned while standing.
Thought A Little Further: How to Secure Synthetic Turf
Finally, a very important aspect is the maintenance of the entire system. If, for example, loose dirt such as leaves, chewing gum, paper is regularly removed from the outside areas, sidewalks and parking spaces are clean and the amount of dirt on the synthetic turf for playground is significantly lower. Thanks to the wet sweeping function, sweepers can also be used in bad weather. Surface cleaners with a working width of 30 to 50 cm are often used. This enables large area coverage to be achieved and the use of cleaning agents can be largely dispensed with. Because the impact force created by high-pressure power nozzles and the corresponding amount of water is usually sufficient for cleaning. The waste-water is then transported into the sewage system via a drain. In order to shorten the working time even more, equipment carriers with swivel beams can be used as an alternative for large railways.
Especially the maintenance of unfilled cheapest way to lay artificial grass pitches can easily be guaranteed with little investment and in combination with the maintenance of the complete system, so that sport can be fun in the long run. Once the artificial turf has been cleaned by synthetic turf installation companies, the sweeper should be serviced. The filter must be cleaned using the cleaning mechanism provided, after which the falling dust collects in the dirt container. The container can then be removed and emptied. The lint filter can be cleaned with a hand broom or vacuum cleaner. The roller brush and side brush should be checked for any wrapped tape or film that needs to be removed. The side brush can also be cleaned of dirt with a hand brush.
